Pumpkin Salt Dough Craft Keepsake

One of my Facebook mommy friends shared a great salt dough recipe and a picture of a super cute pumpkin with a child’s handprint and footprint on it. I love making cute things to keep as memories and since Braydon just started his tot school I thought it would be a fun thing to make, really anyone can do it because the recipe it super easy peasy and creating the pumpkin shape isn’t hard at all! If you are really nervous about messing up the shape you could use a cake mold, or create a basic circle to put handprints or footprints of your little one on. Follow the instructions below to create a fun fall memory you and your family will enjoy for years to come!

What You Will Need:

  • 2 cups of flour
  • 1 cup of salt
  • 1 cup of luke warm water
  • a cookie sheet
  • tin foil or wax paper
  • crafting paint in colors of your choosing
  • paint brush

Directions:

Okay so first you are going to mix your flour, salt, and water into a smooth dough. Flatten it and shape it how you would like, then set it on your wax paper/tin foil covered cookie sheet. Now the hard part! Wrangle your little one and try to get a descent imprint of the body part you would like on your masterpiece. I chose to use one of my sons handprints and one of his foot prints. Phew! not that that is over you are ready to put your keepsake in the oven at 200 degrees four 2-4 hours, or until its dry. This will vary based on the size and thickness of your keepsake. If you don’t want to bake it you can always set it out to dry overnight but this takes a bit longer. Once dry, you are ready to paint your craft! you can pick some seasonal realistic colors or have your little one pick out the colors! Just be creative and be proud of your creation! Once its dry you may display said artwork however you see fit, I put mine on my entertainment center in my bedroom. Go ahead and share your job well done with all your mommy friends and family members! This is such a simple and achievable craft that you can keep forever. These materials are always in my house so it literally costs nothing and is not very time consuming either. I hope this inspires you to make lots of fun memories with your little ones, considering how versatile this craft can be you could make a keepsake for every holiday and every season if you wanted to! Isn’t it great seeing the look on your little ones face knowing that you helped them complete something they are proud of and that you get to remember forever? Isn’t that “ferry godmother” feeling kicking in yet?! If you liked this post or have other neat craft ideas please feel free to share in the comments below and subscribe!
